Kerry Football blitzed by Cork Team in Division 1 Super Sunday Drama

Kerry Football Fans

For Kerry football fans all roads today led to headquarters at Austin Stack Park in Tralee for the visit of old adverseries Cork. The occasion was the last round of the Allianz National League Football Division 1 2014 . Up for grabs was a spot in the semi finals of this years league. Cork came to Kerry GAA HQ already guaranteed a berth along with Derry thanks to an impressive run of results by both counties. Down at the bottom were Kildare and Westmeath who will play Division 2 next year.

Kerry had a poor start to their campaign with losses to Dublin, Derry and Mayo. Along with Paul Galvin retiring from inter county football and a season ending injury to Colm Cooper things in the Kerry GAA world were downbeat. The outlook changed however following a demolition job on Tyrone in Killarney and subsequent wins over Kildare and Westmeath.

There was considerable talk of the Kerry GAA football team making the semis today based on a myriad of permutations. They would have to win today and rely on results elsewhere to go their way. In the end though it did not matter as Cork outclassed Kerry 2-18 to 1-11. The first half was a tame affair with both sides exchanging points. The match threatened to explode to life with a goal from each team just before half time. At the break it was 1-7 to 1-6 in Corks favour.

The second half was mostly one way traffic with a lacklustre display from Kerry who had no answer as the rebel county pulled away. Final score 2-18 to 1-11.Cork now face Dublin and Derry take on Mayo in the semi finals. Best of luck Cork.  For Kerry its a chance to take stock and turn their attention to the championship in June.

Kerry GAA Hurlers show the way

It was not all bad on the Kerry GAA front today. The Kerry Senior Hurling team became Division 2A champions with an impressive win over Carlow played at Thurles. The score was 3-16 to 3-13. The Kerry hurlers have blazed a trail in their division and are worthy champions. They now have a shootout against Offaly next Sunday to obtain Division 1B status. Best of luck to Eamonn Kelly and the team.
